My name is Alex Gere. I am the grade 7-12 French teacher at York Country Day School. I have taught everything from French 1b to AP French, and have also taught a small group of students about French Cinema. This is only my second year teaching, but I grew up surrounded by educators. My mother is the librarian and media-specialist for a 4-6 elementary school in New Hampshire, and my father is a consultant for Apple Computers (in other words, she does software, he does hardware). I am THRILLED to start using Web 2.0 in my classroom, and am constantly trying to find ways to use the resources provided by the school to their utmost. Outside of school, you will find me stalking friends, family and celebrities on Facebook and Twitter, watching every movie that comes to theaters, reading trashy novels, listening to Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me, This American Life, or Fresh Air, and baking. I am fascinated by the possibility of bringing my hobies/addictions into the classroom. When I grow up I want to teach French in Portland, ME, summer in Bretagne, and actually attend Yoga classes rather than simply play Yoga on my Wii Fit. You are welcome to follow me on Twitter, though I must warn you that I did not start the account with work in mind. Rather, my father signed me up so that we could keep in better contact when I moved from Vermont to Pennsylvania. Very few if any of my tweets are academically minded.
